Helaine: 
Good lord did she develop over the course of the book and honestly, I am not mad about it. The back story on Hel but, what we do know is that she is running from her father who is obviously very powerful and searching for her for some odd reason. Within the book she starts out by working for the guardians of the city and of course catches the eye of Daddy Bastion. 
I honestly stan the whole vibe of Hel, she is obviously very lost and alone and the one time that she actually finds peace she learns that she has just been used most of the time.. This book and this character literally made me fall in love. 
Likability: 8.5
Character Growth: 5 (Hel is able to grow a little but not much, she starts to open up more but in the next book I would love to see her truly open more and grow!) 

Bastion: 
Bast is a necromancer who is the Lord of the City of Souls, he has a very bad reputation surrounding him due to lies and deceit and honestly it just makes him more hot to me... I mean who the fuck doesn't want someone like his fine ass to just show up and buy your debt and make you his?? 
Bast is a little bit on the same page as Hel, an outcast from his former life due to being blamed for his father's death and honestly the way that he takes care of the people around him and cares of them literally makes me melt. He is so good and honestly if you are going to read this book it should be for them! 
Likability: 8
Character Growth: 5 (There isn't much room for growth for Bast within this book but I do look forward to seeing how he will develop! 

What I Liked:
Honestly I loved a majority of this book!! I loved the way that the relationship between Hel and Bast grew quickly and gave them a true sense of long lost loves that grew to hate each other and boy was it good! I love the way that we get to experience moments with Hel learning that she can make things happen without a bigger thing coming to light. I also love the way that Bast is so fierce and protective of things that matter to him, all of the characters blended together so well and really made the story amazing! Thank you Mel Harding-Shaw and BookSirens for allowing me to read this amazing novel! I cannot wait until the next one comes out!!
